Find out: Will ‘Bajirao Mastani’ eventually leave ‘Dilwale’ behind?

The box-office battle between ‘Dilwale’ and ‘Bajirao Mastani’ is turning out to be pretty interesting. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed film is giving a hard time to the Rohit Shetty directed film.
Though, the SRK starrer has taken the lead in the opening weekend, but the pace with which the Ranveer Singh starrer is growing, it can end up leaving ‘Dilwale’ behind.
Yes, there is actually a possibility of the unimaginable happening. If we breakdown the collections of the two movies, the real picture will start to come out.
Bajirao Mastani - Fri- Rs 12.80 cr, Sat- Rs 15.52 cr, Sun- Rs 18.45 cr (Total – Rs 46.77 cr)
Dilwale - Fri- Rs 21 cr, Sat- Rs 20.9 cr, Sun- Rs 24 cr (Total – Rs 65.09 cr)
If we look at the total of the opening weekend, then ‘Dilwale’ is leading with approximately Rs 19 crores. But coming to the day-wise growth, it is ‘Bajirao Mastani’ who is in the lead.
Having released in 2300+ screen the historical drama has witnessed a phenomenal growth of around Rs 6 crores from Friday to Sunday whereas the masala entertainer, in spite of releasing in 2900+ screens, has only seen a jump of Rs 3 crores.
Also, the second day collections of ‘Bajirao Mastani’ went up by Rs 3 crores whereas ‘Dilwale’ saw a decline. So what does this trend imply?
As far as ‘Bajirao Mastani’ is concerned, the word of mouth is extremely positive and that is translating into terrific collections. The film is expected to perform brilliantly in the weekdays and then in the second weekend too. The movie will certainly put up big numbers in the days to come.
‘Dilwale’ on the other hand is carrying a mix word of mouth and is mainly surviving on SRK’s star power. There is no doubt in the fact that the hard core fan following of the actor can take this film to record height but due to the clash, that might seem unattainable.
By Shah Rukh Khan’s standards, the weekend collections are already on the lower side when compared with Happy New Year (108 crores) and Chennai Express (100 crores). So, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that this very much avoidable clash is taking a toll on Rohit Shetty and team.
On the other hand, Ranveer, Deepika and Priyanka are receiving immense appreciation for their performances in the historical love saga. And Sanjay Leela Bhansali is standing with confidence owing to the strong content and picturization of the movie.
If ‘Bajirao Mastani’ will continue to roar like this, then it will surely make a big hole in the pockets of Red Chillies. And who knows, may be the power of word of mouth will take over the star power and the unthinkable will happen.
The picture will become clearer in the coming days as the film with better hold in weekdays will go for a long run and eventually have better collections.
